The Building as a Teaching Tool
Tour one of the most energy-efficient and innovative buildings in Pittsburgh with a visit to the CCI Center. Using the CCI Center as a demonstration tool, docents help students to discover the ways in which buildings use energy and natural resources, and how through thoughtful design and caring stewardship our building manages to use far less energy and natural resources less than a comparably personed and sized structure. Building highlights include:
- High-efficiency ENERGY STAR Furnaces and Chillers
- Exposed ventilation ductwork throughout
- T-8 and compact fluoresent lighting throughout
- Plenty of natural daylighting
- Generous numbers of recycling containers provided by our tenant and partner, the Pennsylvania Resources Council
- A modular, extensive Green Roof
- A Solar Domestic Hot Water Heating System
- Three Solar Photovoltaic Arrays that generate electricity
- Energy and water use demonstrations
- An interactive kiosk to demonstrate the effectiveness of our solar systems
- Zero VOC paints and finishes
- And much, much more...
